Simchat Torah - "October 7th" Observances

  • Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah mark the one year Hebrew Yahrzeit of the tragic terror attack on October 7th.
So many of our fellow Jewish brothers and sisters were taken from us on that day.
We must keep these precious souls in our thoughts and prayers and we need to act in their memory!

This year, to honor their memory, there will be various meaningful additions to the regular services throughout the High Holidays culminating with the actual Yahrzeit on Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah.

  • WE WILL REMEMBER WITH A SPECIAL BIMA COVER

  • The focal point of all of our prayers throughout the high holidays is the Bima, the table in the center of the synagogue upon which the Torah is read.
The Bima is also the place where the Shofar is blown on Rosh Hashana, Kol Nidrei is read on Yom Kippur and of course what we dance around on Simchat Torah.

This year the Bima will be covered with a special cover
The cover will have all of the Hebrew names of the over 1200 who were killed on October 7th.

The cover will serve as a constant reminder throughout our prayers of our holy brothers and sisters who lost their lives in the sanctification of G-d's name and protecting the Holy Land of Israel!
We will have in mind all of their names as we pray.

You can dedicate a name on the bima cover for $18 to charity. Please select how many names you'd like to dedicate below. You will be emailed the names that you dedicated.

  • WE WILL DANCE WITH A SPECIAL TORAH COVER

  • The Holiday of Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah (Oct 23-25) marks the yahrzeit- the hebrew calendar date of the passing of the holy souls who were taken on this day, last year.

Despite our broken hearts we will dance.
We will dance with extra energy for all those who no longer can.
We will dance together with our brothers and sisters in Israel and around the world!

One of our Torah scrolls that was dedicated by Tobie and Meira Tugendhaft a number of years ago will be adorned with a beautiful new cover dedicated in memory of those who lost their lives on October 7th last year.

The new cover is generously sponsored by the Tugendhaft family and reads as follows:

״שישו ושמחו בשמחת תורה, ותנו כבוד לתורה״ -
(Rejoice and be joyous on Simchat Torah and honor the Torah.)
לעילוי נשמת הקדושים שנספו ביום שמחת תורה תשפ״ד הי״ד
This Torah cover is dedicated to honor the memory of those who lost their lives in the sanctification of G-d's name and while defending the Jewish people on and following Simchat Torah, 5784. October 7th 2023

ALL ARE INVITED TO JOIN US FOR DANCING!
